Sister Frances Lyle, O.S.U.

Sister Frances Lyle, O.S.U., who taught in the Bronx for nine years, died May 10 at the United Hebrew Home of New Rochelle. She was 97.

Sister Frances taught in the Bronx at St. Angela Merici School, 1973-1974; Academy of Mount St. Ursula, 1963-1969; and Our Lady of Mercy, 1961-1963; and at Blessed Sacrament, New Rochelle, 1951-1954. She served in administrative positions at the College of New Rochelle, 2002-2005 and 1992-1998; as community leader at St. Angela Merici, the Bronx, 1980-1983; and as Ursuline provincial secretary, New Rochelle, 1979-1980.

She also served in Maryland, Delaware, Venezuela and South Africa.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle, and a master’s from Fordham University, the Bronx.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 16 in the Ursuline Province Center, New Rochelle. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
