Brother Henry Wright, C.F.C.

Brother Henry Wright, C.F.C., who taught at Msgr. Farrell High School on Staten Island for 43 years, died Oct. 29 at Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. He was 80.

Brother Wright served at Msgr. Farrell, 1974-2017, where he coached bowling and won 10 city championships as golf coach. He was a 2011 inductee into the CHSAA Hall of Fame.

He also taught at Cardinal Farley Military Academy, Rhinecliff, 1969-1971, and Blessed Sacrament High School, New Rochelle, 1965-1966. He also served in New Jersey, Rhode Island and Newfoundland, Canada.

Born in the Bronx, he entered the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers in 1952 and professed final vows in 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New Rochelle and a master’s degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

His sister, Lora Winkelmann, survives him.

A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 3 at St. Charles Church on Staten Island, followed by burial in the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park.
