Brother John J. Beeching, M.M.

Brother John J. Beeching, M.M., a missioner to Thailand for 32 years, died July 8 in the Assisted Living Unit at Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining. He was 82.

Brother Beeching served in Thailand, 1990-2022, where he taught English at a Buddhist monastery and worked with refugees seeking aid at a new Maryknoll mission in Myanmar. While in Thailand, he received the Call to Brotherhood award from the National Association of Religious Brothers in 2000.

He also served in Yemen and Chili.

Born in Castor, Alberta, Canada, he entered Maryknoll in 1964 and professed final vows in 1971. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco.

His sisters, Margaret Beveridge and Mary Kay Thomas, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 18 in Queen of Apostles Chapel at the Maryknoll Society Center. A Memorial Mass will be offered in the fall, and Brother Beeching’s ashes will be interred at Maryknoll Society Columbarium in the fall.
