Brother Richard Rancourt, F.M.S.

Brother Richard Rancourt, F.M.S., an educator who served at several schools in the archdiocese, died April 3 at Champagnat Hall in the Bronx. He was 84.

He began teaching at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, 1951-1959. He then served as a professor at Marist College until 1969. He taught at Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, in 1969, then served as principal at St. Agnes Boys High School, Manhattan, 1970-1974.

He then returned to college teaching at Pace University where he taught until 1984. He returned to Marist College that year and he served there until he retired in 2009.

Born in Lawrence, Mass., he entered the Marist Brothers in 1947. He professed final vows in 1954. He held a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Marist College, and a master’s in philosophy and a doctorate in mathematics education, both from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 8 at the Chapel of Mount St. Michael Academy. Burial was at the Marist Brothers Cemetery in Esopus.
