Father Depaul A. Genska, O.F.M

Father Depaul A. Genska, O.F.M., who ministered on the streets of New York City, died Sept. 13 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 79.

From 1970 to 1978, he served as vicar of the friar’s community and retreat team minister at Christ House, Lafayette, N.J. During those years, he ministered to women involved in prostitution in New York City and New Jersey.

He also served in New Jersey and Illinois.

Born in Syracuse, he entered the Franciscans of the Holy Name Province in 1951 and professed final vows in 1955. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1958.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 17 at St. Anthony Church in Butler, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa, both in New Jersey.
