Father Thomas J. Fox, O.F.M.

Father Thomas J. Fox, O.F.M., who was a missioner in Brazil for 52 years, died June 4 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 90. He served in Brazil from 1950 until 2002, first as an assistant and then pastor and superior in various parishes in Anapolis, Ceres, Porangatu and Jatai. Born in Manhattan, he entered the Franciscans of the Holy Name Province in 1940 and professed final vows in 1944. He was ordained in 1946. He studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph's Seminary in Callicoon, and he held bachelor's and master's degrees from St. Bonaventure University, Olean. He is survived by two sisters, Ellen Johnson and Marie McLaughlin. A Funeral Mass was offered June 6 at St. Francis of Assisi in Manhattan with burial in Anapolis, Brazil.
