Sister Beatrice Kerezsi, F.S.P.

Sister Beatrice Kerezsi, F.S.P., a former principal of St. Stephen of Hungary School in Manhattan, died April 4 at St. Leo’s Convent in Elmwood Park, N.J. She was 82.

She was principal of the East 82nd Street school from 1953 to 1963. She also served for many years at various schools and parishes in New Jersey; earlier, she was a teacher at St. Stephen’s School in Bridgeport, Conn., for 15 years.

Sister Beatrice was a member of the Daughters of Divine Charity for 33 years before becoming a Franciscan Sister of Peace in 1982. She professed final vows as a Franciscan in 1984.

Born in Bethlehem, Pa., she was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy on Staten Island and earned a bachelor’s degree at Fordham University. She did graduate work in religious studies at Manhattan College and Seton Hall University.

Sister Beatrice is survived by two sisters, Sister Mary Marcelle Kerezsi, S.F.C.C., and Helen Urich.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 9 at SS. Simon and Jude Church, Bethlehem, with burial in Holy Savior Cemetery there.
