Sister Eileen Reilly, O.P.

Sister Eileen Reilly, O.P., who served as a director of religious education and teacher in parishes and schools in the archdiocese, died Jan. 8. She was 96.

She was regional director of the Rockland and Westchester Catechetical Office, 1986-1991, and a consultant there, 1984-1986, and regional director, Orange County Catechetical Office, 1978-1984.

She was director of religious education at St. Anthony parish, Nanuet, 1991-1994; Sacred Heart, Suffern, 1977-1978 and Resurrection, Rye, 1971-1977. She was a pastoral associate at St. Margaret of Antioch parish, Pearl River, 1994-1998.

She taught in the Bronx at Aquinas High School, 1961-1967; St. Anthony’s School, 1953-1961 and St. John Chrysostom, 1945-1948, and at Cardinal McCloskey Home and School, White Plains, 1948-1953. From 1998 to 2002 she was an administrative assistant and finance assistant at Albertus Magnus High School, Bardonia. She also taught in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1943 and professed final vows in 1950. She was formerly known as Sister Ann Thomas.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Manhattan College and a master’s in religious studies from Providence College in Rhode Island.

She was predeceased by her four siblings, including Sister Patricia Ann Reilly, O.P.

Arrangements were private. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
