Sister Florence Mary Simpson, S.C., who served at schools in the archdiocese during a 56-year teaching career, died Oct. 2 at Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers. She was 94.

She taught at St. Peter’s Elementary School, 1935-1946, and St. Peter’s High School, 1946-1957, both on Staten Island; Blessed Sacrament, Manhattan, 1957-1967; Elizabeth Seton College, Yonkers, 1967-1973 and St. Barnabas High School, the Bronx, 1975-1977. She chaired the modern languages department at St. Barnabas, 1977-1984. She also taught part time at St. Raymond Academy in the Bronx, 1986-1991, and served in various capacities at the Adult Learning Center in New Rochelle, 1991-1995.

Born in Paterson, N.J., she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1933 and professed final vows in 1939. She held a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Mount St. Vincent and a master’s in Spanish from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 6 at Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Rochelle. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
