Sister Frances Gopsill, S.H.C.J.

Sister Frances Gopsill, S.H.C.J., who had been a principal and librarian in the archdiocese, died Nov. 30 at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, Pa. She was 78. She was principal of SS. Peter and Paul School in Mount Vernon, 1967-1970, and librarian at St. Elizabeth’s School, Washington Heights, 1979-1987.

She served in the Philadelphia area for 27 years, including 18 years as a librarian at Rosemont College preceding her retirement in 2006. Previously she

had been a teacher in the area and in Illinois. Born in Fairfield, Conn., she entered the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1955 and professed final vows in 1964. Formerly she was known as Mother Mary Job. She held a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Villanova University and a master’s in library science from Dominican University. She is survived by two sisters, Irene Iwanecki and Barbara Leson. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at New Sharon Chapel in Rosemont. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, Pa.
