Sister Helen Wilkie, O.P., who taught in the archdiocese, died July 6 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. She was 90. Formerly known as Sister Mary Robert, she taught at Mount St. Mary Academy in Newburgh, 1965-1968, and Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 1959-1961, and at three elementary schools: Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, 1955-1959; St. Mary's, Poughkeepsie, 1944-1946; and Our Lady of Victory, Mount Vernon, 1940-1944. She was a principal in New Jersey and also taught there and in North Carolina. She retired to the Dominican Sisters of Hope Center in Newburgh in 2001. Born in the Bronx, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1937 and professed final vows in 1945. She held a bachelor's degree in biology from Fordham University and master's degrees in education from the University of Notre Dame and in home economics from Columbia University. She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Wilkie. A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 9 at the Dominican center in Newburgh, with burial in the sisters' cemetery.
