Sister Julia Marie Kennedy, F.M.S.C.

Sister Julia Marie Kennedy, F.M.S.C., who taught at archdiocesan schools for nine years, died Sept. 4. She was 95.

Sister Julia Marie taught at St. Stephen of Hungary School, Manhattan, 1992-1996; Sacred Heart, Manhattan, 1978-1980; and St. Columbanus, Cortlandt Manor, 1975-1978. In 2006, she worked at Villa St. Francis in Peekskill and retired to the sisters’ infirmary in 2013. She also served in Queens and Pennsylvania.

Born in Castlegregory, Kerry, Ireland, she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1957 and professed final vows in 1964.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Ladycliff College, Highland Falls; and a master’s in education from SUNY New Paltz.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 9 in Mount St. Francis Convent, Peekskill. Burial was in the sisters’ cemetery, Peekskill.
