Sister Margaret Kilpatrick, O.P.

Sister Margaret Kilpatrick, O.P., who was a teacher before taking up a social work and health care ministry, died June 19 in Elkins Park, Pa., where she was on retreat. She was 82. Most recently, she directed the Food and Clothing Pantry at St. John the Baptist parish in Manhattan, 1993-2003. She taught in the archdiocese at St. Thomas of Canterbury School, Cornwall-on-Hudson, 1945; Dominican Day School, Larchmont, 1946-1951; Annunciation, Crestwood, 1951-1958; St. MaryÕs, Newburgh, 1958-1960; and Mount St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, 1960-1967. She became a licensed practical nurse in 1977 after studies at St. JosephÕs Hospital School of Nursing in Yonkers, then ministered as a nurse in Mount St. Mary Infirmary, Newburgh, 1977-1980. She was a nurse's aide and taught English as a second language at Little Sisters of the Assumption Health Center in East Harlem, 1980-1983, and was a founder and staff member at Newburgh Ministry, 1983-1990. Born in Newburgh, she was formerly known as Sister Robert Marie. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1942 and professed final vows in 1949. She held a bachelor's degree from Villanova University and a master's from The Catholic University of America. She is survived by a sister, Sister Maris Stella Kilpatrick, O.P. A Funeral Mass was offered June 22 at the Dominican Sisters of Hope Chapel in Newburgh. Burial was in the sisters' cemetery there.
