Sister Marian Joseph Craddock, S.C., who taught clothing construction for 25 years at Grace Institute, Manhattan, died Oct. 17 at Convent of Mary the Queen in Yonkers. She was 94.

She taught at Grace Institute from 1972 to 1997, and then served as a volunteer there until retiring in 2001.

She was an elementary school teacher for 34 years and spent two years teaching home economics in high school before she began studies in fashion design at Fashion Institute of Technology and Traphagen School of Fashion Design.

She taught at St. Veronica’s School, Manhattan, 1936-1938; Immaculate Conception, Staten Island, 1938-1946; St. Raymond’s, the Bronx, 1946-1947 and 1967-1970; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 1947-1955 and 1959-1963; St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, 1955-1959; and St. Ann’s, Yonkers, 1963-1967. She taught home economics at Bishop McDonnell High School, Brooklyn, 1970-1972.

Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1935 and professed final vows in 1940. She held a bachelor’s degree from the College of Mount St. Vincent, and certificates from the fashion schools she attended.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 20 at Mary the Queen Convent, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
