Sister Marie Antoinette Cafero, C.S.JB.

Sister Marie Antoinette Cafero, C.S.JB., who served as a kindergarten teacher and assisted the elderly, died Oct. 2 at Mount St. John Convent in Purchase. She was 89.

Sister Marie Antoinette taught kindergarten at Our Lady of Loreto School in Manhattan, 1966-1974. She also served the elderly at Providence Rest in the Bronx, 1956-1961.

Her other assignments over the decades included nursery work, mission work, domestic work and internal ministry at locations including Africa, Brooklyn, Glen Cove, upstate Cairo and Newark, N.J.

Born on Staten Island, she entered the Sisters of St. John the Baptist in 1947 and professed final vows in 1958. She studied at the Lincoln Center campus of Fordham University.

She is survived by her sister, Mickey, and nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 7 at Mount St. John Convent. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
