Sister Marie Magdalen Pickles, O.P.

Sister Marie Magdalen Pickles, O.P., who was an elementary and high school teacher in the archdiocese, died Dec. 22 in Nyack Hospital. She was 93. She taught in the Bronx at Msgr. Scanlan High School, 1968-1979. Earlier, she taught in the Bronx at St. Rita's, 1941-1945, and in Sparkill at St. Agnes, 1947-1950. She also taught in the Brooklyn and Syracuse dioceses. She worked in the finance office at Dominican Convent in Sparkill, 1985-1996. Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1932 and professed final vows in 1939. She held a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Manhattan College and a master's degree in business from the College of St. Rose. She is survived by her sister, Sister Henrietta Clare Pickles, O.P., and her brother, William. A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 28 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill, with burial at St. Agnes Cemetery, also in Sparkill.
