Sister Mary Catherine Murphy, R.S.H.M.

Sister Mary Catherine Murphy, R.S.H.M., a member of the pastoral care program at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn for 22 years, died Aug. 9 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 82. She served at Maimonides from 1983 to 2005, when she retired to Marymount Convent. In the archdiocese, she worked in the business office of Marymount School in Manhattan, 1951-1952, and was secretary to the dean of Marymount College, Tarrytown, 1952-1966. She also served as provincial secretary of the Eastern American Province of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 1976-1982; was local superior of the R.S.H.M. community in Sag Harbor, where she also was a teacher; and was regional superior of communities in Garden City, Queens and Brooklyn. Formerly known as Sister Paraclitus, she was born in Manhattan. She entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1950 and professed final vows in 1956. She held a bachelorÕs degree from Marymount College and a masterÕs from Southampton College. She is survived by a twin sister, Sister Susan Murphy, R.S.H.M., and another sister, Madeline Murphy of Bronxville. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 13 at the Marymount Convent Chapel, with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
