Sister Mary Dolores Mitch, M.M., who served for many years as a teacher and education administrator in the Philippines, died June 30 in San Diego. She was 85.

In the 1970s, Sister Mary Dolores was supervisor of teacher training at Notre Dame University in Cotabato City in the Philippines. In the 1980s, she served at the Notre Dame of Jolo as chairperson of the education department and taught English and psychology.

Her first mission in the Philippines was in 1963, when she began teaching religion and English at a school in Lipa City. She also served in development capacities for the congregation in Chicago, the Midwest and the West Coast, before retiring in 2011.

At the time of her death she was residing at a Maryknoll Sisters retirement home in Monrovia, Calif.

Born in Missoula, Mont., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1958 and made final vows in 1967. She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Fordham University, and a master’s in education administration from Ateneo de Davao University, the Philippines.

Funeral arrangements were pending.
