Sister Mary Edith Horvath, F.D.C., who taught in the archdiocese, died March 6 at the Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center on Staten Island. She was 87.

She taught in the archdiocese from 1940 to 1947, first at St. Stephen of Hungary School, Manhattan, and then at St. Joseph Hill Academy, Staten Island.

After that, she taught in various schools throughout the country staffed by her congregation until retiring in 1977.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, she entered the Daughters of Divine Charity novitiate in 1938 and professed final vows in 1947. She held a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University in Chicago.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 10 in the chapel of St. Joseph Hill Convent, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
