Sister Mary Gabriel Reis, O. Carm.

Sister Mary Gabriel Reis, O. Carm., who as coordinator of the Teresian Society, now the Mother Angeline Society, worked to promote the canonization cause for the Carmelite congregation’s foundress, Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory, O. Carm., died Aug. 11 at St. Patrick’s Home in the Bronx. She was 94.

She had served with Mother Angeline after joining the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. She served the congregation as treasurer general, 1954-1996, and vocation director, 1960-1978.

She was a talented writer and poet.

Born in Brooklyn, she entered the congregation in 1936 and professed final vows in 1942. She held a bachelor’s degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

She was predeceased by her sister, Sister Mary Perpetua Reis, R.S.M.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 18 at St. Teresa’s motherhouse, Germantown. Burial was at Queen of Carmel Cemetery, Germantown.
