Sister Mary Gertrude DeLeonardis, O.S.F., who taught at St. Joseph’s School in Spring Valley, died Oct. 21 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. She was 89.
She taught at St. Joseph’s, 1992-1995. She also taught in Paterson, Newark, Haskell, Passaic, Hewitt and Ringwood, N.J., and in Brooklyn.
Born in Hoboken, N.J., she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Ringwood in 1938. (The congregation later merged with the Sisters of St. Francis, Philadelphia.) She professed first vows in 1940 and final vows in 1947.
Two sisters, Mary DeLeonardis and Anne Grasso, survive her. A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 26 at Assisi House. Burial followed at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
