Sister Mary Gillespie, C.N.D.

Sister Mary Gillespie, C.N.D., who taught at Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island for 10 years, died Jan. 21 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers. She was 91.

She was at Notre Dame Academy, 1971-1981, and taught at St. Columba’s School, Manhattan, 1959-1960. She also served in Ohio, Maine, Illinois and Rhode Island.

Born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, she entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1953 and professed final vows in 1959.

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both in education, from the University of Maine.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 27 at Villa Notre Dame, Wilton, Conn. Burial was at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury, Conn.
