Sister Mary Rita Kendergan, O.P., who taught at Our Lady of Refuge School in the Bronx, died Oct. 31 at St. Elizabeth Manor in Footville, Wis. She was 98.
Sister Mary Rita served as a teacher at a Our Lady of Refuge, 1951-1959, and was a parish visitor there, 1974-1982. Over the decades, she served in Wisconsin, California, Illinois, Minnesota, South Carolina, South Dakota and Iowa.
Born in Milwaukee, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, Wis., in 1941 and made final vows in 1946.
A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 12 at the motherhouse in Sinsinawa. Burial was at the motherhouse cemetery.
