Sister Rita Marie Keegan, M.M., who served in the Bronx and later in Bolivia, died June 2 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 88.

Her first assignment was as a teacher at St. Anthony’s School, the Bronx, 1960-1965. She was then assigned to Bolivia, studying Spanish for a year and later teaching and working in community services. Over the decades, she also served in California and Oregon, serving in various capacities including as a counselor in substance abuse rehabilitation programs.

Born in Richland Center, Wis., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1957 and made final vows in 1966. She held a bachelor’s degree in English and speech from Rosary College in River Forest, Ill., and a master’s in social work from San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif.

She is survived by her sisters Sally and Maureen and her brother Roy.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 7 in Annunciation Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was at the sisters’ cemetery.
