Sister Rose McDonnell, C.N.D.

Sister Rose McDonnell, C.N.D., who taught at the college and high school levels in the archdiocese, died March 6 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 90.

Formerly known as Mother St. Rose of Mary, she taught at Mount St. Vincent College in Riverdale, 1972-1974, Iona College in New Rochelle, 1972-1973, and Notre Dame College on Staten Island, 1959-1968.

She also taught at St. Jean Baptiste High School in Manhattan, 1943-1952.

Born in Providence, R.I., she entered the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre Dame in 1941 and professed final vows in 1949.

She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Rhode Island College and a master’s degree in education from Fordham University.

Among those who predeceased her is a brother, Father Henry McDonnell, O.P., who served in the Dominicans’ Western Province.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 10 at St. Ann’s Church in Yonkers, with burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, Conn.
